BBFI resumes book donation program for rural communities
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the education inequality in the country. Staying true to its mission of uplifting the nation through education development initiatives, Bato Balani Foundation, Inc. (BBFI) has recently resumed Tulong sa Paaralan, Tulay sa Kaunlaran (TSP-TSK), the organization’s flagship book donation program that started in 1993.
This initiative provides rural communities and underprivileged sectors with quality educational materials. Over the years, recipients range from public schools, community-based organizations, local government units, barangays, government agencies, public libraries, non-governmental organizations, and corporate foundations with adopted communities or schools under their patronage.
Since October 2020, around 46,000 educational resources amounting to more than 2.9 million pesos have been distributed in several rural areas across the country. Most recipients were from Visayas islands, Laguna, Bulacan, Bukidnon, and Olongapo.
BBFI also partnered with Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. and ABS-CBN Foundation Inc. in their efforts to give the community children affected by the series of typhoons last year access to printed educational materials like textbooks and magazines. Different Department of Education schools in Rizal benefited from this collaboration.
In addition, for more than seven (7) years now, BBFI has been supporting the Libro Para sa Sitio program of Sierra Falconés Mountaineering Club. The main goal of this project is to supply general reference books to schools in rural areas and established Non-Formal Education Centers.
Through TSP-TSK, BBFI affirms its commitment to giving education the attention it truly deserves, especially during these challenging times.
